Industrial conveyor belts - 50m, 100m, 200m or more - cannot be shipped as a single continuous loop. The belt is manufactured to the full length and then shipped in coiled sections, each section sized to fit standard freight containers and pallet dimensions.

On-site, your installation team joins the sections end-to-end using the connecting accessories supplied with the order. The result is one continuous belt with joint points that are structurally equivalent to the rest of the belt - no weak points, no alignment gaps, no reduced load capacity at the joins.

Connecting pins pass through the chain link ends at each section join, locking two belt sections together. The pin is the primary structural fastener at the join - it carries the full belt tension load at that point. YIYI Mesh Belt pins are produced from the same material grade as the belt itself (SUS304 or SUS316L) and matched precisely to the rod diameter of the belt.

Cross rods are the structural transverse rods at section join points. They run the full width of the belt, threading through the spiral links at the section ends, and carry the lateral load that keeps the belt flat and aligned across the join. Without correctly fitted cross rods, a section join would act as a hinge - producing belt tracking problems and premature wear at the join point.

Eye link belts use a different joining method from spiral belts. At the section end, each link has an exposed eye (loop). The connecting tube passes through the aligned eyes of two facing section ends, creating a rigid, aligned joint. The tube method produces a join that is flush with the belt surface - no raised hardware that could catch product or create a hygiene concern at the join point.

How to Join Belt Sections On-Site

Standard belt joining requires no specialist tools beyond basic hand tools. The process is the same for all belt types - only the specific hardware differs.

Uncoil belt sections and lay flat in order. Verify section labels match the installation sequence.

Bring two section ends face-to-face. Mesh the spiral links or align the eyes so the connection points are fully engaged.

Thread the cross rod through the meshed spiral links or aligned eyes across the full belt width.

Insert connecting pins at each chain link end to lock the cross rod and prevent the join from separating under load.

Check join alignment and pin retention. Repeat for remaining section joins. Load the belt onto the conveyor system.

Connecting Accessories - Common Questions

Do I need to order connecting accessories separately?+
No - connecting accessories are automatically calculated and included with every belt order. We calculate the required pins, spare links, cross rods, and (for eye link belts) connecting tubes based on your total belt length and number of section joins. Everything arrives with the belt, pre-labelled by section number. You only need to order separately if you want additional spare stock for field repairs, or if you are extending or repairing a belt from a previous order.
How many spare links and pins are supplied?+
The quantity supplied covers all section join points plus a surplus for field repairs. For a typical 3-section belt (2 join points), we supply pins and links for both joins plus a 10-15% surplus. For longer belts with more sections, the surplus percentage is adjusted. The goal is that your installation team has enough hardware to complete the installation and hold a working stock of spares without needing to re-order immediately after installation.
What is the difference between a cross rod and a connecting pin?+
The cross rod is the main structural transverse rod that threads through the meshed spiral links across the full belt width - it carries the belt tension and maintains lateral alignment at the join. The connecting pins are smaller pins that pass through the chain link ends at each edge, locking the cross rod in place and preventing the join from opening under load. Both are required at every section join point. For eye link belts, the connecting tube replaces the cross rod - there is no separate cross rod for eye link construction.
Is the joined section as strong as the rest of the belt?+
Yes - a correctly completed join using YIYI Mesh Belt connecting accessories produces a joint with the same structural properties as the manufactured belt. The cross rod and pins at the join are the same material grade and equivalent diameter to the belt rods and links. The join is not a weak point under normal operating conditions. All YIYI Mesh Belt belts undergo a FINAL FIT VERIFICATION before despatch - the test runs the belt through a full wrap on the drum at the specified minimum diameter, which includes loading the join points under the same conditions as the manufactured belt body.
Can I order connecting accessories for a belt not made by YIYI Mesh Belt?+
Yes - if you can provide the belt specification (wire diameter, pitch, material grade, and belt width), we can supply matching connecting accessories for any standard metal spiral, eye link, or flat wire belt. Send us a photo of the belt and the section ends - we will identify the required hardware specification and quote accordingly. This is a common requirement for maintenance teams who have inherited equipment without original documentation.
